The need for solid health and safety systems, procedures and practices are more important than ever as we move out of the European and Customs union into the wider world sometimes using the World Trade Organisation rules for the global market. While it is hoped that in time that the UK will negotiate reciprocal trade agreements with many of our trading partners throughout the world, there is a need to make sure we do not miss out on opportunities during this period of change.
However, while this is a major priority for the UK government
with negotiations already started with the EU and the US there is
another crisis developing that has the potential to overshadow these
negotiations. At the present time the Covid-19 is rampaging its way
through the world with increasing infection rates and its effect on
global business. Already the major stock markets have taken a major
tumble that may take years to recover from, and international supply
chains are starting to breakdown especially those from China Spain and
Italy.
The current uncertain situation is starting to have implications
on new business as travel restrictions are now in place in many
countries across the world and exhibitions are being postponed to later
in the year or been cancelled all together for 2020. This does not mean
that we must shut up shop until the crisis is over, but the exact
opposite needs to be undertaken, while all that are able to are being
requested to work from home, there is still a need to carry on
innovating and manufacturing. The need for differentiation from our
worldwide competitors is now more than ever vital for our long-term
future and by being more professional, innovative and providing reliable
systems is one way to ensure we can all succeed in these challenging
times. This is where Shapa can help with 110-member organisations
covering all aspects of the Solids handling industry from powder testing
to full turnkey bulk handling systems.
