SHAPA Summer General Meeting Welcomes Made Smarter UK

Jun 18, 2026 By Louise Smallwood Uncategorized

For manufacturers navigating increasing pressure to improve productivity, reduce costs, address skills shortages and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace, digital transformation is no longer a future ambition – it is a business necessity.

That is why SHAPA is delighted to welcome Tim Kirby from Made Smarter UK as a guest speaker at our Summer General Meeting in July.

Made Smarter is a national, government-backed initiative dedicated to helping UK manufacturers embrace the opportunities presented by digital technologies. Through expert advice, practical support and financial assistance, the programme helps businesses identify and implement technologies that can deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, sustainability and profitability. Made Smarter works with manufacturers of all sizes, providing tailored guidance to ensure digital investments are aligned with strategic business goals and operational needs.

A key feature of the programme is access to match-funded grants of up to £20,000, enabling manufacturers to invest in new digital tools, equipment, software and specialist support. Funding can cover up to 50% of eligible project costs, helping businesses accelerate their digital transformation while reducing financial risk. Alongside funding, participants can access digital road-mapping, technical expertise, leadership development and workforce training designed specifically for the manufacturing sector.

During his presentation, Tim will explain how manufacturers can identify opportunities for digital adoption, the types of projects that can be supported, and the practical steps involved in securing funding and implementing new technologies. He will also share examples of how manufacturers are already using automation, data analytics, artificial intelligence and connected technologies to drive performance improvements and future-proof their operations.

For SHAPA members, this session offers a valuable opportunity to learn more about a programme that is helping thousands of UK manufacturers unlock growth through innovation and digitalisation. Whether your organisation is at the beginning of its digital journey or already investing in advanced technologies, Tim’s presentation will provide useful insights into the support available and the tangible benefits digital transformation can deliver.

We encourage all members to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to engage directly with Made Smarter, ask questions and explore how the programme could support their own business objectives.
