Noise Reduction and Containment
Many powder handling and processing systems are inherently noisy. The
source of noise being a combination of the noise generated by the
equipment and the nature of some of the materials being handled or
processed. Whether the noise in your facility is a nuisance to you,
potentially harmful to your operatives or makes you a bad neighbour,
there are SHAPA members with the solutions to help.
Noise that can damage hearing is generated in a variety of bulk solids processing machines: examples are the loud clatter of rods, hammers and balls that grind minerals, the jet engine-like noise generated by high-speed turbine mills grinding foodstuffs and the relentless drumming from sieves and other equipment that vibrates. On top of this, there are air-cannons and other noisy means of discharging difficult materials from silos and just the general noise of products being conveyed either mechanically or pneumatically.
SHAPA members offer full noise surveys so that they can address your specific needs through a variety of solutions. In some cases, where factory noise is simply a nuisance to office workers for example, it may just be a matter of applying acoustic panels to the dividing wall between your offices and factory. Where noise is above regulation levels within a working environment, the usual option is to enclose offending equipment within its own acoustic enclosure. Other situations might require specialist silencers to be fitted to the equipment vents.
Noise, like dust, is unfortunately a by-product in the bulk solids industry and needs to be addressed properly. Accordingly, the SHAPA membership is there to help.

processes served by our industry just adds to this challenge.....

Shapa has launched the 2018 Solids Handling Industry awards, these awards are
now open to all UK registered member and non member companies and
institutions operating in the Solids Handling and Processing Industry.

be announced and presented at the awards ceremony in the evening of 17th
