Conveyors and Elevators

The conveying and elevating of dry bulk solids ranges from mined minerals and fuels through to the finest and most toxic chemicals and pharmaceutical preparations. Between them, SHAPA members manufacture and supply conveyors and elevators to suit them all - and everything in between.

In most instances conveyors are expected to move feedstock from storage to process, semi-processed materials from one process to the next, or finished products from process to packaging – all with little or no change to their condition. This is particularly relevant to mixtures – the last thing anyone wants is a conveyor that de-mixes a well-mixed compound? However, if product is being delivered to a grinding mill, then any attrition during delivery of the material to the mill may well even be helpful.
The conveying of delicate extruded food products, which need to look aesthetically pleasing when the consumer opens the packaging, is one of the industry’s greatest challenges.
The avoidance of cross-contamination between materials of differing colour, flavour, aroma or toxicity conveyed in the same equipment and the absence of bug-traps for dairy and other sensitive products are challenges for conveyor suppliers too. Ease of cleaning, whether manually or automatically can be a key criterion in conveyor selections for such applications.
The containment of hazardous materials is an area of specialisation offered by many SHAPA members.
Critical to the success of any conveyor application is the supplier asking all the right questions, the customer giving as much information as they can (given that they are often the most knowledgeable about the way their specific product behaves) and conducting representative trials. That is, unless the supplier already has a proven track record with the materials in question. SHAPA members are dedicated to providing the best conveying solutions to their customers.
